Introduction to hand set type and letterpress printing

This is a basic introduction to the fine art of hand set metal type. Hosted at the historic living museum known as Paradise Press, this workshop will teach the basic skills in hand setting movable type as was the standard for 400 years since its invention by Gutenberg. Participants will learn the California Job case and that leading and kerning were not invented for the computer. Each student will print a keepsake of their own using the ornaments and types of Paradise Press. Hal Leader is founder of Printing Prep and the proprietor of Paradise Press.
